WIP Wednesday

I was able to meet last weeks goal and the latest batch of singles have been plied. This is a basic wool blend from Spunky Eclectic in the Lite Nova Scotia colorway. No plans for it as usual, just added it to the ever growing stash pile.

2 ply - approximately 240 yards - 12 wpi

I started spinning the superwash Corriedale that was next on the list. It's lovely to spin...soft and smooth and not quite as slippery as superwash Merino. My goal for this week is to finish up the singles so I can get some much needed practice with Navajo plying.

I started but did not finish sock yarn square #3. The goal for this week is to finish this one and start #4.

I also made my goal on the socks that are now boring me to tears. The goal for this week is to get as much done on these as possible so that I can get them off the needles and start a new pair with some COLOR.

Happy Knitting!

WIP Wednesday
I made my goal and then some for spinning this past week. I managed to get all 4 ounces spun up and was quite pleased with myself. 10 Minutes a Day has really helped me get my spinning mojo back. My goal for this week is to get this plied and start a new batch of fiber.

This is what is going on the wheel next.... it's a superwash Corriedale in the Savannah Sweetie colorway. I have never spun superwash Corriedale before and I look forward to giving this a try.

I finished up square #2 but didn't get #3 started like I had planned. So that will be my goal again this week.

I made my goal of getting to the heel of the seed stitch socks and even got the heel flap of both socks completed. For this week I hope to get the gusset decreases completed on both socks.

I have been working on a few other things I can't post about right now. This is a peek of one of them....

And here is the other...

I have been dragging my feet on the first one and really need to finish it up and that is another goal for this week.
Happy Knitting!

I saw this on Donna's blog and thought it would be fun to interview my husband and develop a little blog fodder of my own.
Me: What is your favorite thing about my knitting?
Hubby: That you’re creative.
Me: What is your least favorite thing about my knitting?
Hubby: That you want me to go to things like Sheep & Wool festivals. ( I haven't asked him to go to one with me in years, but apparently that first time was traumatic for him)
Me: What is something I have knitted, that you recall as good?
Hubby: My sweater
Me: Do you think knitters have an expensive hobby?
Hubby: Yes, especially if they spin too.
Me: Do you have any hobbies?
Hubby: Computers
Me: Do you have a stash of any kind?
Hubby: No (he doesn’t count computer equipment, computer games, computer applications etc. as stash apparently - and he is not mentioning golf!)
Me: Have I ever embarrassed you, knitting in public?
Hubby: No, why would that embarrass me?
Me: Do you know my favorite kind of yarn?
Hubby: Worsted (this answer made me smile)
Me: Can you name another knitting blog?
Hubby: Knitty ( he knows Knitty is not a blog - but he was playing a game while I was asking the questions and only half paying attention)
Me: Do you mind my wanting to stop at knit shops wherever we go?
Hubby: No
Me: Do you understand the importance of a swatch?
Hubby: Of course, it’s a gauge.
Me: Do you read Needles and Wool?
Hubby: Occasionally
Me: Have you ever left a comment?
Hubby: No
Me: Do you think the house would be cleaner if I didn't knit?
Hubby: Yes ( no beating around the bush on this answer)
Me: Anything you'd like to add?
Hubby: No
From the look on his face when I started, I think he thought this was going to be a lot more painful.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

WIP Wednesday
I finished the last of the plying. This is Corriedale from Crown Mountain Farms in the Pesto colorway, which I don't believe is available anymore. I am rather fond of its green-ness. :) I think it could have been plied a tad tighter, but it doesn't bother me enough to run it through the wheel again. As usual, I have no plans for the yarn.

2 ply - 740 yards - 15 wpi - 8.5 oz.

This is what is going on the wheel next. It's a basic wool blend from Spunky Eclectic in the Light Nova Scotia colorway. My goal this week is to get at least 2 of the 4 ounces spun up.

I made some good progress on the newest socks. This was mostly accomplished on the train ride back and forth to NYC. My goal this week is to make it to the heel flap of both socks.

I also made some progress on my second sock yarn square. I'd like to get this one finsihed up and start the third one this week.

And that's all I have for this week.... Happy Knitting!

I had a nice time in NYC and didn't have any trouble keeping myself busy. Hubby was there on business and the company he was meeting there set us up at the Hudson Hotel. That was our first (and last) time staying there. The room there was really small. No, REALLY small. There was just enough room to walk around the bed and that's it. The bed was also so short, both of our toes hung off the end, and we are not really tall people. And the bed was very hard!

The bathroom was also small. I don't know if you can tell from this picture, but there is not a lot of space between the toilet and that wall.

So I took this picture too to give you a better idea of how close that wall is. I had to straddle the toilet before I could sit down because my knees kept hitting the wall otherwise. haha We won't even discuss the size of the shower stall. And this is not an inexpensive hotel. I don't know what you would do if you showed up there with kids. Probably cry. I know I would have if I had small kids with me.

It was also really, really dark. All of it. The lobby was dark, the rooms were dark, the hallways were dark. This is the hallway outside our room during the daytime, with flash. It was actually kind of creepy. If I had paid for this hotel I would not have been happy, but seeing as I didn't, I dealt with it. We both couldn't wait to check out though.

On the first day I walked from West 58th Street to Purl in Soho. It was a long walk. It didn't look that long on my trusty little map, but by the time I got there my feet were not happy. I kept thinking about getting a cab, but it seemed silly to get a cab when I was almost there. Yeah right...Once I had lunch and visited Purl's yarn and fabric store, I took a cab to a The City Quilter on West 25th Street and then worked my way through the garment district and eventually back to the hotel. I definitely got my exercise in that day! There were many places I had planned on seeing that I never made it to though. I was especially bummed about missing Habu. That night we had dinner at Wolfgang's Steakhouse with my brother in law, who lives in NYC and it was truly the best steak I have ever eaten. Ever. We had wanted to try out Bobby Flay's restaurant, but we forgot to make reservations in time and it was full. Maybe next time....
Believe it or not, I didn't buy a single thing at any of the garment district shops. It was like my first time at a fiber festival.... completely overwhelming. There was fabric everywhere. You had to climb over it in some stores just to get to other parts of the store. I spent the second day sight seeing with hubby and didn't take any pictures that day.

I got these fabrics at the quilting shop. The Wizard of Oz fabric because they are Dorothy's ruby red slippers of course! And the taxi fabric because I had one particular cab ride on day one that took about 5 years off of my life instead of the normal 1 year, and I surely don't want to forget that.

Some fat quarters...

And lastly, some Pop Garden from Heather Bailey ,which I love and don't know if I can cut.

Of course I also had to stop at the M&M store because who can resist peanut M&M's in these cool colors!? Yum!

It was a fast and fun little trip.
