WIP Wednesday

I seem to have caught the sewing bug again. That is my explanation for going missing for 2 weeks. Oh, that and I read a book. A real book. A real book not about knitting or spinning or even sewing. Imagine that! Well, in all honesty it was an audio book so it wasn't actual reading but it still counts, right? It was Stephen King's newest book, Duma Key. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed being immersed in a book again. It's been a really long time. My morning walks have been flying by with a book to listen to.

So, back to the sewing. I have been wanting to try my hand at making some tops for spring and summer. But before I jumped in and ruined some perfectly nice fabric, I thought I would start with something easy first to warm up. I decided a lightweight bathrobe would be a good start. How hard can a simple cotton bathrobe be? It looked simple in the picture. But the shawl collar it had was anything but easy for me. It took me many days of thinking about it and ripping out tiny little stitches before I finally figured it out. It may not be Project Runway worthy, but I like it. And hopefully it won't shrink up an inch every time I wash it like the store bought one I have now does. I tried it on a few times while I was working on it to check for arm and the hem length but never did I pay any attention to the height of the belt loops because I hadn't made the belt yet. This afternoon when I was thought it was all done, I slid the belt through the loops and tried it on and it ties way up around my rib cage. Drat! I will say that everything I have made so far has definitely been a learning experience. So right now it is sitting in a time-out (just like my knitting does) until I take out the side seams and move the belt loops.

I did make my goal of finishing up my first Serpentine Mitt. I haven't touched the second one though. My goal for this week is to finish the second mitt. I need to get these off the needles so I can start my May Day Swap socks.

I finished the Noro scarf this afternoon and haven't taken any pictures of it yet. Phew, a finished project!

I am also really close to finishing Clapotis. I started the decrease rows last night. My goal is to finally get this one off the needles this week also.

I finished spinning the Dogwood singles but didn't feel like plying so they are waiting in the wings until I have more full bobbins to ply.

I started spinning this fiber which is a blend of Polworth, Alpaca and Angora. I'm sure I picked it up at some fiber festival but I can't remember from who and I can't find the slip. It's dreamy to spin though. My goal is to get bobbin #2 started.

Poor Liv is still being ignored and I didn't make my goal of working 10 rows per sleeve. I think for this week I will shoot for working 5 rows per sleeve on poor Liv and see how that goes.

Well that's all my news. I have much blog reading to catch up on. I wonder if that should be a goal too.
Happy Knitting!

Audiobooks certainly do count as reading - that is what audioknits is all about! I have been able to read so many more books as well as produce so many more FOs while knitting to audiobooks.

Great-looking spinning! I wonder if I even remember how to draft! As for books, I can't go to sleep unless I have at least two on my nightstand....just in case I have a bad night and finish one, there better be a spare! The audio books would be good for walking, though.

Audio books count!! I haven't read a grown up book in quite a while but I have a couple of books on my IpodI should listen to...
Your mitts are lovely. The second one should fly off the needles.

Audio books most certainly count. I wouldn't be able to read at all if not for Audio books.

The mitts look great and the spinning is beautiful as always!

Wow - again.... such wonderful projects. I always love the colors you pick.

5 rows doesn't seem like much, but even 1 row would be progress, right? :)

As usual, your spinning is beautiful and inspiring!
Good luck on finishing your bathrobe - and go you for sewing!!

Sounds like you've been really enjoying your days lately. I used to read alot too. But I think I've only managed two (non-knitting) books since I learned to knit. ugh.

Love the mitt. I'm always wishing I had a pile of those like socks!

Audiobooks totally count! Our library network has some great ones. You can search for them on the website and have them email you when the one you want is ready for pickup at YOUR local library. It's so awesome.

oh divine to become immersed in a book. i just love doing that.
hang in there with the sewing.. I wish I was closer to help with it. You'll get it. eventually it will just 'click' like spinning does :-)
btw - your spinning is incredible.

Love the mitts so far! And the spinning is fantastic as always. Hope you have lots of bobbins. ;)

That mitt is on my list of mitts to do. The bobbin of handspun is lovely nestled in the fiber.
