WIP Wednesday
Well I have finally recovered from the flu. Hubby had it first, was sick for 3 days and then was good as new. Me, on the other hand, was sick for 2 full weeks. So not fair. I still have a slight cough, but for the most part I am doing good. I've started walking again in the morning, so I must be feeling better. I am walking a little over 3 miles, about 4 - 5 times a week. I was happy with 4 times a week, but we have a trip to Florida coming up in May, and the thought of putting on a bathing suit is now motivating me to 5 times a week. The fact that I have gained 10 pounds since I quit my job is pretty motivating too. Apparently I eat more when I am at home. A lot more.
I sat down at my computer last week to try to catch up on my e-mail and discovered that my IP had been added to a blacklist for Spamming. Almost all my emails were being returned as a result. I guess someone hacked into the server where my blog is hosted and did some mega-spamming from it. I was able to get through to Optonline as of yesterday, but Comcast, SBCGlobal and a bunch of others still have me blacklisted last time I checked. What a PITA! Hopefully it will all be fixed soon, but that is why I haven't been answering my e-mails.
I also signed up for a beginners quilting class that started last week. It was just two classes and today was the last day. I really enjoyed the class but we didn't have enough time to finish up our little mini quilts today and I have no idea how to do the binding. I was disappointed that we didn't cover that very important part. I'm going to have to find a book or something and see if I can figure it out. I am also working on a quilted purse right now. Well, it's suppose to be a purse but it might be too big for a purse for me, and I'll most likely use it as a knitting bag. We'll see. I'm still cutting it out so I don't have any pictures yet.
Last week I worked on a baby kimono for an upcoming baby shower. I used the pattern that is in the Mason-Dixon book. Very cute! I can't show a picture yet because I know she visits my blog. I'll post a picture in a few weeks, after the shower.
I also made some progress on my May Day socks. I am working on the heel flaps now. I can tell I am not going to want to part with these. They are so pretty!

And I started a pair of plain vanilla socks just because. The yarn is from the stash and is an old Opal sock yarn in the Brasil series I think

I got the sleeves for the top down cardi back on the needles. Even though I tried them on as I was knitting them, I may rip them yet again and make them a bit wider. They fit, but they are still a bit more snug than I like. I keep checking my gauge and it is spot on, but following the numbers in the pattern is not working for me on these sleeves for some reason.

Well that's all my news. I have tons of blogs to catch up on. From the looks of my Bloglines, you have all been really busy!
Happy Knitting!
Posted by Karen at March 26, 2008 06:26 PMWalking - my butt needs that too. Good for you for doing so well with that.
Some very nice knitting going on there.
Glad you are finally getting better. That's a long time to be sick.
Posted by: Chris at March 26, 2008 08:12 PMGlad you are getting better...it was a bad one this year. If you need help with quilt binding, let me know. I can direct you to some good books or get you some directions. Email me.

Sorry to hear about what happened with your blog server...having your IP blacklisted is indeed a PITA!
The May Day socks are so pretty!
The blacklisting issue must be so frustrating! I hope it clears up for you soon. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better!
Love the knits, they all look great! :o)
Posted by: JessaLu at March 26, 2008 10:38 PMI'm glad to see you are finally feeling better. What a long haul you had! And those really are pretty socks.
Posted by: Jane at March 26, 2008 11:58 PMYuck! Being sick for two weeks sounds like a real drag. I'm glad to hear that you're finally feeling better. It's good that you were able to start walking again. I started running a few months ago, and I'm amazed at how much better it makes me feel. Now I actually look forward to running a few miles!
Your WIPs all look lovely. I really like the May Day socks.
Posted by: Rachel at March 27, 2008 03:23 AMI'm glad you're feeling better. The flu has been awful this year.
The socks and sweater are lovely.
Good for you walking. I just can't get back into it. I haven't walked since November and I really miss it.
Glad you are feeling better! Whatever went around this year was absolutely awful.
Posted by: Anne at March 27, 2008 08:44 AMGlad you're feeling better! Where was your quilting class? They'll probably help you with the binding since you didn't get to it in the class, I would imagine.
Posted by: Jenny at March 27, 2008 09:16 AMwelcome back! betcha it felt a lot longer than two weeks, eh?
Posted by: brenda in toronto at March 27, 2008 09:46 AMYeah, I always eat more when I'm at home. I try to keep less fattening stuff around to nosh on. Breadsticks for example.....You are right, those socks ARE too pretty to part with.
Posted by: Carol at March 27, 2008 09:55 AMGlad you are feeling better. Email me and I'll try to explain the binding clearly for you if you want. Love all of your knitting projects.
Posted by: Ruth at March 28, 2008 02:59 AMGlad to hear your feeling better! That's a bummer about the quilting class. It's sounds like it should have been a class or two longer. The socks look great I can understand why you'll have a hard time parting with them!
Posted by: Kelly at March 28, 2008 05:26 AMWish I could walk with you. But I would already be in shape by the time I made it to CT. =) I love your May Day socks! I hope they're mine! Hee. And I'm so glad you're over the plague.
Posted by: katie at March 28, 2008 08:49 AMSorry you were out of commission for so long. Sounds like you are back on the right track now though! The socks are really cool. Hope you get the sleeve issues worked out quick. :)
Posted by: Jessica at March 28, 2008 09:30 AMSo glad you are feeling better! That flu is wicked from what I have heard (not that flu is ever good but this one seems especially difficult to get rid of).
How did you know that your IP address was spam? I've had a lot of mail returned lately so now I'm wondering if mine is doing the same thing.
Posted by: Debby at March 29, 2008 09:06 AMI totally sypathize with the flu thing. My family has been plagued with it for over 2 weeks. We had a combination of the respiratory and the stomach yucks. It's a bad one!
Beautiful socks! I don't think I could part with them either.
Posted by: Lisa at March 31, 2008 08:53 AMblog issues and spam are a PITA indeed. I hope that it all gets cleared up soon.
It seems like everyone I know's computer is acting wonky right now (if that's any consolation)
Your May Day Socks are fabulous. I wouldn't want to part with them either.
I hope that the cardi begins to behave soon :-)
Posted by: Teyani at March 31, 2008 10:49 PMGlad to hear you are on the mend. I have something but I'm not sure whether it is allergies or a cold - my head is all stuffy and I feel like I'm in a fog.
I see you already have some offers of help with the binding but I'll just offer my help too. I can't remember which sweater I did this to, but I actually went up a size in the pattern for the sleeves. The body was fine but the sleeves were just a little more snug than I liked. Good luck!
Glad you are feeling better. I love how nicely you matched up the Opal socks.
Posted by: Elysbeth at April 1, 2008 08:13 PMGlad to see you back and hear you are feeling better!
Your socks are gorgeous - I really love the yarn and that pattern together, I am just drooling over my keyboard! =)
