Pattern: Knitting Pure & Simple Neck Down Shaped Cardigan #241
Yarn: Classic Elite Classic Silk
Needles: US #6
Started: 11/26/07
Finished: 4/24/08

I had to knit the first sleeve three times. Even though my gauge was spot on, the sleeve was too tight. Once I got the numbers worked out on sleeve #1, the second sleeve worked up quickly.

I love the sweater and have worn it at every opportunity since I finished it. I love the bell sleeves and how they aren't too belled. (I know that's not a word) And I love this yarn. Classic Silk reminds me of Rowan Summer Tweed, except thinner.

WIP Wednesday:
The Ribby Shell continues to grow. Boy that looks small in the picture! Maybe I had better measure it.

I ripped out the STR no-purl Monkey's and cast on the Simply Lovely Lace Socks instead. I am using some Elann Esprit from the stash. I think I am going to like these better.

I finished up a simple pair of pillows for my Living Room couch. They're not fancy but add a much needed touch of color and I got some much needed practice with zippers.

I have also been working on a quilt kit I picked up long before I was sure if I would like sewing. It's only lap size and I thought it would be a good place to start. The fabric was suppose to be cut into rectangles, but I screwed up one of the first pieces I cut, so squares it is!

I have no knitting goals this week. We are leaving early Friday for vacation in Florida and the only knitting projects I am bringing with me are socks. A few weeks ago, I had a nickel size spot on my face biopsied and it came back as precancerous. I have since had it frozen off with liquid nitrogen and am not suppose to get any sun exposure on it whatsoever. So my goal for the week will be to take a vacation in sunny Florida and not get any sun on my face. Sounds like a good goal to me.
I'll be back next week. Happy Knitting!

Posted by: Emily at May 7, 2008 09:03 PMI love that sweater! It looks really, really nice!
In other news - good luck in florida! Stay in the AC and knit like crazy!

Posted by: Julie at May 8, 2008 08:10 AMLovely! That sweater looks fantastic on you!!
Enjoy your trip to Florida. I've had several skin cancers either cut off or burned off, and it's very hard being blonde and enjoying the outdoors not to get "too much" sun. Sigh.
Posted by: Anne at May 8, 2008 08:20 AMYour sweater came out so well -- it fits you perfectly!! It must be so great to have it done.
Enjoy your trip to Florida and don't forget the sunscreen! :)
Posted by: Debby at May 8, 2008 09:46 AMkaren, the sweater looks great! i should dig my version of it out of the WIP basket.
enjoy your vacation - and get one of those big floppy hats! i get a crop of those cancer crusties removed every year (just had a big one removed two weeks ago), so i too know how important it is to stay shaded. have fun!
Posted by: brenda in toronto at May 8, 2008 09:56 AMThe sweater looks amazing!! Talk about a custom fit! enjoy Mothers day and your vacation!!
Posted by: delia at May 8, 2008 09:58 AMSo flattering! I'll bet it's really comfortable, too. After your description, I want to try some of that yarn. I have some Summer Tweed and I love the texture, but it is a bit heavy for me.
Have a wonderful vacation. (Take some Neutrogena sheer sunscreen--spf 55+. It's not at all greasy and you can wear in on your face and enjoy the sun without ill effects. I use it every day in the summer.)
Posted by: Suzanne V. (Yarnhog) at May 8, 2008 11:14 AMBeautiful sweater. Looks good on you. Have a fun time in Florida!
Posted by: Elizabeth at May 8, 2008 12:08 PMBeautiful sweater. I need to see if I have that pattern. Also, squares are just as good as rectangles.
Have fun in Florida - bring a big hat. I burn easily so I'm always one of those people looking for the shade.
Posted by: Lisa at May 8, 2008 01:52 PMhats, seriously get an awesome floppy, fun hat and wear it everywhere with sunscreen. Love the sweater it looks perfect!

The sweater is really lovely on you! Great color too. And I'm so glad you caught your skin issue early!! Have a wonderful time on your vacation and stay out of that nasty sun!
Posted by: Jessica at May 9, 2008 10:56 AMLovely cardigan! It's on my wishlist, and I'd like to use Rowan's Felted Tweed. I'm currently knitting a neckdown scoop t-shirt from KP&S.
Have a wonderful time, buy a big, floppy sun hat, that should keep the sun off your face!
Posted by: dawn at May 9, 2008 10:58 AMStunning sweater - you look fabulous in it! I'll bet it will be a favorite for many years.
and that quilt is going to be such fun. I like it in squares.
Sorry to hear about the biopsy and subsequent nitrogen treatment. gack. Yet I'm glad they caught it early and got it fixed. Here's to spf 45 !
Have a wonderful trip.
I agree with everyone that the big floppy hat is your friend. Joe makes fun of mine, but I come home from Aruba every year as white as I arrived! I love the cardigan! Very flattering! :)
Posted by: Jenny at May 9, 2008 11:40 AMThe cardigan looks wonderful!
Posted by: Ruth at May 10, 2008 04:16 AMThe sweater looks great!! How did you like working with the Classic Silk? I bought a skein of it for swatching but haven't played yet. I do think that reminding one of Summer Tweed could be either a good or a bad thing, depending on the pattern. It looks great in this pattern.
Posted by: robin at May 12, 2008 06:24 PMWhat a great-looking sweater! And all of your other projects are looking good, too. Have a fun trip and good luck avoiding the sun. Maybe you can pick up a sombrero. =0)
Posted by: katie at May 13, 2008 04:01 PMGreat job on the cardi! Love all of your other projects too. Have a good trip next week!
